I am a registered accountant and Chief Financial Officer who enjoys solving problems that do not have obvious answers. What drives me is understanding how organisations work and improving the systems that determine how they perform. Finance is my profession; building stronger organisations is what motivates me.
I am often brought in after more conventional approaches have been exhausted. I am energised by complexity, work best where there is genuine freedom to act, and enjoy partnering with owners and CEOs who challenge ideas rather than simply endorse them. In my experience, lasting change only happens when the leadership team understands not only what should change, but why.
Much of that change is achieved through people. I enjoy recruiting strong finance professionals, developing them into leaders, and building teams that keep improving long after my own assignment has ended. My goal is not to become indispensable, but to help create organisations that no longer depend on any single individual.
That same approach extends beyond executive leadership. I am an entrepreneur and owner of Grotnes, a specialist manufacturing company in the United States. Through my ownership and governance role, I contribute to the company's strategic direction, capital allocation, leadership development, and long-term resilience. Grotnes gives me the perspective that comes with committing my own capital, supporting management, and remaining accountable for decisions over time. Alongside my executive work, I teach at the Amsterdam Business School at the University of Amsterdam, helping experienced professionals connect financial theory with organisational reality.
I am also the author of Correctly Wrong, a forthcoming book exploring how financial architecture shapes what organisations can see, understand, and ultimately decide. The ideas behind the book reflect an interest that has run throughout my career, from co-founding XBRL Netherlands to helping organisations redesign the way information supports decision-making.
Build finance functions that can carry real weight, not just headcount. Recruit and lead teams across finance, legal, IT, HR, tax, and treasury, structured to work in large international groups as easily as in mid sized businesses with lean support.
Run the full deal process end to end, strategy, target screening, valuation, due diligence, negotiation, and the unglamorous work of integration once the ink is dry.
Turn a mess of numbers into a small set of metrics a board can actually act on. Build the reporting and systems behind them so the story holds up under scrutiny, not just in the boardroom.
Step into situations where the numbers and the operations no longer agree. Assess the real options, build a recovery plan that works on paper and on the shop floor, and secure the funding to carry it out.
